Shortly after 9:00 a.m. on April 19, 1995, a Ryder rental truck filled with perhaps 4,800 pounds of explosives became an awful detonating bomb that ripped away half of the nine-story Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. The death toll mounted and eventually rose to 168. Many of the dead were children who had just been left in a day care center by trusting parents. Men and women in masks sifted through the wreckage looking for clues that might help solve the crime.
