Money

GOD IS ALWAYS NEAR
Object Lessons and other Worship Stories for Children
Children need to learn that for the church to do its work gifts of money are needed.
Object:
a clown hand puppet.
Sometimes children are afraid of clowns. I have a clown here today that I think you won't be afraid of. Is this a friendly-looking clown? (Let them answer.) Why do you think he looks friendly? Right. Because he's smiling. Do you think he looks unfriendly? How? His eyes don't look right. I don't like his hair.
If this clown could talk to you, he'd say, "I'm glad you're here for the big celebration we're having today. (Continue pretending the puppet is talking to the children.)
I liked having breakfast here at the church. Did you have something good to eat? What did you eat that was good? A muffin, a cinnamon roll.
Today we're thinking about money to give to our church. How many dollars do you think the church needs? You're right. The church needs many dollars to tell people about Jesus. I hope you will always give all the money you can to the church.

Sharing Our Surplus
We can share our surplus garden vegetables with [___], so they can help feed the hungry.
Objects: tomatoes.
Once there was a boy who liked to grow vegetables in a little garden in his parents' yard. He especially liked to grow tomatoes, like these. What would you like to grow if you had a little garden all your own? (Let the children answer.) Tomatoes, carrots, beets, beans, and potatoes.
Sometimes people who have gardens grow more food than they are able to eat or can or freeze. Should they just take any food they can't use, put it in a big plastic garbage bag and put it out on the curb for the garbage man to haul away? What else can gardeners do with their extra vegetables? (Let them discuss it.) I'd give some to my friends. I'd sell them to the neighbors.
One thing to do with food is give it away to hungry people. Jesus thought that was a good idea. He talked about it in the Bible. Do you know people who are hungry because they don't have money to buy any food to eat?
Some hungry people here in [___] are given food by a group named [___]. Where does the food we put in this big basket go? To [___].
If your family or neighbors have extra food in their gardens, tell me after church or give me a call on the telephone and I'll tell you how to give your fresh vegetables to [___].
