THOMAS
MATTHEW: (ENTERS WITH THOMAS) Jesus told us to do it.
THOMAS: I know, but I just can't do it, Matthew.
MATTHEW: It has to be done. Look, Thomas, I've been to see him once.
THOMAS: You've been to him already? I thought we were going together.
MATTHEW: That's not what the Master told us to do. I'm supposed to go to him and confront him with his sin, and he's supposed to confess and repent and ...
THOMAS: Yes, of course. I remember now. Well, what happened? What did he say?
MATTHEW: I confronted him about the shortage and he said he didn't do it. It was that simple.
THOMAS: He said he didn't do it. Well, what would you expect him to say, "Sure, I stole all the money from the offerings"?
MATTHEW: Jesus said that's the way it's supposed to work.
THOMAS: Well, you just learned something. It doesn't always work out like the Master says.
MATTHEW: It would be nicer if it would.
THOMAS: "Nicer" is not reality, Matthew. We're dealing with sin here, not "nicer."
MATTHEW: I guess so. Well, what do we do?
THOMAS: You know what we do. We both go to him and we take along another brother, maybe Simon. Simon will stare him down and then he'll confess and then he'll repent and we'll forgive him and we'll all be all right again.
MATTHEW: Like Jesus said, "Then we have won our brother."
THOMAS: That's right.
MATTHEW: But you don't want to go and confront him.
THOMAS: I don't like to confront anybody But it has to be done. For our sake and for his. I can see how it might work. If he is caught in this sin and confesses and repents, it might stop him from doing something worse.
MATTHEW: Well, I don't want to confront him again. But we have to.
THOMAS: That's why we're going to take Simon along. Simon loves to confront anybody at any time.
MATTHEW: Right. We take Simon.
THOMAS: We might as well go do it now. (THEY BEGIN TO EXIT) What's going to happen to him?
MATTHEW: What do you mean?
THOMAS: I mean, if he doesn't repent, what's going to happen to him?
MATTHEW: I don't really know. I don't understand him.
THOMAS: Neither do I. Judas is different.
