Call To Worship
Leader: Create pure hearts in us, O God,
People: and put new and loyal spirits in us.
Leader: Do not banish us from your presence;
People: do not take your Holy Spirit away from us.
Leader: Give us again the joy that comes from your salvation,
People: and make us willing to obey you. Amen.
Collect
Compassionate Lord, we bow before you in adoration and thanksgiving. We know that in keeping with your promise you have forgiven us our sins and no longer remember our wrongs. We rejoice in the new covenant you have made with us in Jesus Christ, your Son and our Redeemer. Bless this time of worship, we pray, and through it renew a right spirit within us. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Eternal God and Father of all humankind, we look forward to that day when all your people know you and obey your laws. We confess, Lord, that we are partly to blame that day has not yet come for we have failed to share the Good News of your forgiving love with our neighbors. Be patient with us, O God, and by the power of your Spirit make us instruments in hastening the day when every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Amen.
Hymns
"From All That Dwell Below The Skies"
"O Zion Haste"
Fifth Sunday In Lent
Second Lesson: Hebrews 5:5-10
Theme: Reverent Submission
Call To Worship
Life can be difficult. There is pressure on every side to conform to what the world around you wants rather than to what God wants. Jesus felt every pressure you feel. He knew disappointment and heartbreak. That is why you can bring everything to him. He knows what you are going through, and he cares.
Let us come before the Lord!
Collect
Lord of the universe, you have taught us how to live in harmony with you and with one another. You have not only given us direction, but you have also come to us in Jesus Christ to walk with us through the valleys and the storms of life. We gather this day to praise you for all your goodness, and to seek for a renewal of our own faith. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, we are so self-satisfied and afraid of losing our self-esteem that we have failed to humble ourselves before you. When suffering has come upon us we have complained to you rather than learning to be obedient sons and daughters, relying on your power and mercy to see us through our difficulties. Forgive us, Lord, and help us to bow in reverent submission to your will. Amen.
Hymns
"If Thou But Suffer God To Guide Thee"
"All Praise To Thee, For Thou, O King Divine"
Fifth Sunday In Lent
Gospel Lesson: John 12:20-33
Theme: Lost And Found
Call To Worship
Seek the Lord while he may be found, call upon him while he is near; let the wicked leave their way of life and change their way of thinking. Let them turn to the Lord, our God, for he is merciful and quick to forgive. Amen.
Collect
Almighty God, we are so intent on saving our time, our strength, our talents lest we lose or waste them. This morning help us to see that we cannot find life's real meaning unless we are willing to lose ourselves in service to Christ and his kingdom. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O Creator God, you have given us life. You have blessed us immeasurably with gifts that enable us to make this world a better place for our children and grandchildren. Temptations to use these gifts for our own benefit often lead us astray. Strengthen and guide us, we pray, that we may know we have a divine purpose in life to lose ourselves in your service by sharing your love and your will for all humanity. Amen.
Hymns
"Amazing Grace"
"He Touched Me"
