Ralph J. Stolle, the man who designed and patented the easy open soft drink cans now used by the millions in our land, grew up in Warren County, Ohio. He attended country schools and a country Methodist church where he learned lasting Christian values. He learned to share what he had. His inventions made him a multi-millionaire.
In his mature years, Mr. Stolle made possible a gift to his hometown community, a tremendous blessing to the Countryside YMCA. Located at the south edge of Lebanon, Ohio, this "Y" serves thousands of people coming from 35 to 40 miles in all directions. It is considered one of the largest and best equipped YMCA buildings in the Midwest.
Family oriented, there is something at Countryside "Y" for people of all ages, from nursery children with pacifiers in their mouths to Senior Citizens in their eighties and nineties. An excellent staff of 26 people serve those who come daily. Rates to join are quite reasonable. There is a complete schedule of all forms of indoor and outdoor athletics, with various kinds of exercise equipment. The Senior Center alone cost over two million dollars, offering special programs such as Aquatic Aerobics using a heated swimming pool.
What a striking gift, and to honor Jesus Christ! One of the staff has said, "The name of Jesus Christ is not a swear-word at Countryside Y."
Their mission statement includes: "We seek to develop Christian personalities through the improvement of the physical, mental, social, moral, and religious conditions of all who are served here."
