Paul Duke tells the story of a white man who during the racial turmoil of the 1960s visited the area where the racial tumult was erupting the worst. Upon his return a friend asked him, "It seems that they have everything going against them, the culture, the law; even the FBI seems to be against them and their cause. Do you think that they will lose?" The man replied to his friend, "I think that they will win." "How can they win when it seems that all the odds are against them?" the friend asked. "I think that they will win because they have a song."1
