Preaching The Lectionary Psalms for Cycles A, B, C
(See Proper 9/Pentecost 7/Ordinary Time 14, Cycle A, for an alternative approach, emphasizing 45:10-17.)
Psalm 45 is a royal wedding song composed as a tribute to the king and his bride. There is nothing quite like this psalm anywhere else in the Old Testament. The language is sometimes difficult, which may be an indication of an ancient origin for the poem. Despite this technical issue, however, the festive character of the psalm comes through with clarity.
