Proper 19 | OT 24
Worship
Lectionary Worship Aids
Series V, Cycle C
First Lesson: Jeremiah 4:11-12, 22-28
Theme: Partial Ruin
Call To Worship
Does it seem to you that we are always in partial ruin? Something is always going a little bit awry? We are always slightly blowing it?
Well, according to God, as long as there is a little hope, God chooses to hope for us. How fortunate that God can take the one decent thread left of us and create from it the fabric of a new being. Come, let us worship almighty God.
Collect
Again and yet again, O God, you have had opportunity to give up on your human creation. Again and yet again, you choose to believe in our capacity to grow and to improve who we are. We are grateful, O merciful and sustaining Creator. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
You do not play games with us, O God. Help us not to play games with you. Guide us so we stop increasing our skill at doing what is wrong. Teach us, rather, how to grow in the truth of what is right. Grant to us the hope to believe we can be better people. Through Christ. Amen.
54C Hymns
"Creator Of The Earth And Skies" or "Lord, Save Thy World" Tune: UFFINGHAM

Proper 19

Second Lesson: 1 Timothy 1:12-17
Theme: Judged Faithful
Call To Worship
When someone we hold in high regard judges us faithful, we regain strength. When someone we respect sees possibility in us, we become better people. Come now and let us worship together, cognizant of the best within each other and within ourselves.
Collect
Dear God, we come here wanting to be faithful to the hope others have for us. Let us speak up and speak out in favor of those who worship in this place. Let your good will for us so overflow that even the most desperate among us will know new strength of heart. Through the presence of your Holy Spirit. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
You know who we are, God, and so do our neighbors, our partners, and our children. You know where we are faithless, yet you recognize a glimmer of faith and judge us faithful. Strengthen us so we might abandon what is undesirable in favor of fortifying our attributes. For the sake of Christ. Amen.
54C Hymns
"I Look To [Thee][You] In Every Need" Tune: O JESU
"Renew Us, O God" Tune: SMALL
"Jesus, Still Lead On" Tune: SEELENBRÛUTIGAM

Church is a place for sinners, O God. Thank you for providing this place where we can acknowledge the truth about ourselves. We are here because we want to amend our ways. Teach us how to accept each other. In the spirit of Christ. Amen.
