Worship
Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle B
First Lesson: Job 1:1; 2:1-10
Theme: Testing Our Faith
Call To Worship
Leader: Examine me and test me, Lord; judge my desires and thoughts.
People: Your constant love is my guide; your faithfulness always leads me.
Leader: Lord, I wash my hands to show that I am innocent and march in worship around your altar.
People: I sing a hymn of thanksgiving and tell all your wonderful deeds.
Leader: Do not destroy me, O Lord, with the sinners; spare me from the fate of those who do evil all the time.
People: As for me, I do what is right; be merciful to me and save me.
Collect
Lord, we are quick to sing your praises when good things happen to us. We try not to complain when trouble comes. We know that you are always with us to give us the strength we need to endure the bad times, and to resist the temptations that come with the good. Praise be to you, O God! Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, in our weaker moments we sometimes wonder if it really pays to be good. So often, as we look around us, evil seems to triumph. Then your spirit comes upon us; our hope and faith in your final triumph are renewed; and we move forward with joy because we know we are on the right side. In Jesus' name we offer this prayer. Amen.
Hymns
"Leaning On The Everlasting Arms"
"I Will Trust In The Lord"

Second Lesson: Hebrews 1:1-4; 2:5-12
Theme: The One Who Leads Us To Salvation
Call To Worship
In the past God has spoken to us through the prophets, and more recently through his Son who came to dwell among humans. Today he still speaks to us through the prophets, his Son Jesus Christ, and through the Holy Spirit. As we gather to worship let our hearts and minds be open to hear God speak.
Collect
Heavenly Father, you have brought us together as your visible body in Christ that we might hear your word. Through this time of worship may each one of us find our commission. Make our fellowship rich, we pray, with all your saints on earth and in heaven; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, what are human beings that you should think of them, mere human beings that you should care for them? Yet you have made them a little lower than the angels, and made them to rule over all things. Forgive us, we pray, when we have been unworthy of such trust, and enable us by your Spirit to accept our responsibility as your children and joint heirs with Christ of your kingdom. Amen.
Hymns
"'Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus"
"I Know Whom I Have Believed"

Gospel Lesson: Mark 10:2-16
Theme: Jesus Teaches About The Family
Call To Worship
Come, let us worship God who calls us to have faith in him with the trust of a little child. Let us lift our voices in praise and thanksgiving to God who has given us an example of true love through his Son, Jesus Christ.
Collect
Lord, within our families we come to know something of your love. Here we know the love that brings us together, as well as the love that sometimes requires forgiveness and fresh starts. In our families we learn the faith and trust of little children and strive to follow their example. Help us, Lord, as we strive to make our families even more a haven of love, encouraging one another in our spiritual growth. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Help us, Father, to let this time of worship bring to each of us a new beginning for a life which would leave behind all that is negative and critical, and to move forward in the power of your love into a life which becomes positive and reaffirming, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Hymns
"Jesus Loves Me"
"When Love Is Found"
