Lectionary Worship Aids
Series V, Cycle A
First Lesson: Joshua 3:7-17
Theme: Miracles of Leadership
Call To Worship
In the miracle of leadership, we do not lead alone. We choose our committees, delegates, and representatives. We are aware of a silent partnership with God. Come, let us worship in the strength of this living God.
Collect
As we consider the miracles of leadership, we strive to balance responsible actions with your grace, O God. We marvel at human community that thrives with artful leadership. We are grateful for your presence among us. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
We are grateful that you provide by pushing back many waves for us, O God. Grant us continued strength to stand by our decisions. Help us distinguish guidance from direction and suggestion from command. Help us listen with open ears of faith. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

We praise you, O God, for your faithfulness to your people. We are grateful for your being in charge still in these times. We proclaim your wonderful name. Through Jesus the Christ. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
We are aware that you, O God, know all that we think and do. We can be better witnesses. We could be leading a more worthy life. Forgive us when we do not care. Forgive us when we lose sight of what is right. Thank you for continuing to thrust us toward a higher level of living. In the name of Christ. Amen.

"Let Us [All] With [A] Gladsome Mind" Tune: INNOCENTS

"Forth In [Thy][Your] Name, O Lord, I Go" Tune: MORNING HYMN or DUKE STREET
Proper 26
Sunday between October 30 and November 5 inclusive
Gospel: Matthew 23:1-12
Theme: A Humble Style
Call To Worship
We gather today to ponder how to serve God and humankind as leaders. We would bring our attitudes of service as close as possible to that of the servant, Jesus of Nazareth. Come, let us worship God.
Collect
In Jesus, you have given us a model of leadership to follow, O God. Be our vision, be our wisdom, as we set goals of service and bring them to fruition. Through Christ. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
We want to have enough pride, God, to call it a healthy self-esteem. Yet we hope to avoid haughtiness or arrogance. Help us ignore position and title as we serve you and those around us. We want to carry enough humility to remember who we are. Yet we must escape traps of self-abasement or useless submissiveness. Guide us in keeping these qualities of character in proper balance as we serve you by leading. Amen.
61A Hymns
"Christ, Whose Glory Fills The Skies" Tune: RATISBON
"Love Divine, All Loves Excelling" Tune: BEECHER or HYFRYDOL
"Be [Now][Thou] My Vision" Tune: SLANE
