Call To Worship (Psalm 98)
O sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things. His right hand and his holy arm have gotten him victory. The Lord has made known his victory; he has revealed his vindication in the sight of the nations. He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the victory of our God. Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises. Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody. With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise before the king, the Lord. Let the sea roar, and all that fills it; the world and those who live in it. Let the floods clap their hands; let the hills sing together for joy at the presence of the Lord, for he is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity.
Collect
Hear us today, O Lord, as we make our joyful noise together. We come to you, not to ask for praise for our technical skill in singing, or to impress you with the cleverness of the words we present before you, nor to attract your attention through the clothes we wear or the cars we drive. We come because we are your people and you are our God. It is you who have found us, you who have called us, you who have made us who we are. We raise our voices with all of creation, and with all your people, because the victory is yours and salvation is ours. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Gracious Father of all humankind, we have come to you with our concerns and our joys. We pray that you will hear our words, spoken and unspoken, and that your Spirit will work great wonders in this world. We pray also that you will cause us to hear as well, so that we ourselves may take up our cross, our burden, our responsibility, and our privilege, presenting the face of Jesus Christ to others through our words, our actions, and our intentions. You are the Lord of this world, and we are your servants. Set for us our tasks, make our mission clear. Amen.
