Proper 7
Worship
Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle C
Theme: What Are You Doing Here?
Call To Worship
Leader: As a deer longs for a stream of cool water, so I long for you, O God.
People: I thirst for you, the living God.
Leader: Why am I so sad? Why am I so troubled?
People: Once again I will put my hope in God, and I will praise him, my Savior and my God.
Collect
Lord, when the forces of evil seem to be victorious, they cry out to us: "Where is your God?" The battle seems hopeless and we are ready to give up. Help us, God, to be less concerned about our own safety and more determined to carry out your will. Speak to us with the soft whisper that caught Elijah's attention, giving us new hope and a new vision of your kingdom. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, we are sensitive to the fact that our actions often hurt the feelings of our family and friends, but seldom consider their effect on you, our Father in heaven. Forgive us, we pray, for our indifference, and with the help of your Holy Spirit may we turn from our sins and live more nearly like your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
God of justice and mercy, we are keenly aware of the multitudes that need our help. The task of aiding them seems so overwhelming when we consider our meager resources. Then we remember how Jesus fed the multitude, and we give thanks that our small gifts when used with those from other congregations can perform similar miracles. In that spirit we present our offerings to you this morning, and ask that you will bless them. Amen.
Hymns
"Be Thou My Vision"
"Lead On, O King Eternal"
"O God Of Every Nation"
Proper 7/Ordinary Time 12
Sunday between June 19 and June 25 inclusive
Second Lesson: Galatians 3:23-29
Theme: We Are All One In Union With Christ
Call To Worship
Leader: My heart is breaking, and so I turn my thoughts to God.
People: He has sent waves of sorrow over my soul.
Leader: To God, my defender, I say, "Why have you forgotten me?"
People: I am crushed by the insults of my enemies, as they keep asking me, "Where is your God?"
Leader: Why am I so sad? Why am I so troubled?
People: I will put my hope in God, and once again I will praise him.
Collect
God of all the nations, we give you thanks for the freedom our forefathers guaranteed us. We praise you for the freedom from sin which your Son, Jesus Christ, offers us. Send your Holy Spirit upon us, that we may truly recognize that there is no difference between the races, between men and women, but we are all one in Christ. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Merciful God, you have given us freedom and we have used it irresponsibly. You have taught us that we are all equal in your sight, but we have been prejudicial in our treatment of individuals from other nations and cultures. Forgive us, we pray, and help us live the new life made known to us by Jesus Christ. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
O God, we not only pray for the unity of your people, but we present these offerings and ourselves that we may work toward that end. Amen.
Hymns
"Christ From Whom All Blessings Flow"
"In Christ There Is No East Or West"
"Many Gifts, One Spirit"
Proper 7/Ordinary Time 12
Sunday between June 19 and June 25 inclusive
Gospel Lesson: Luke 8:26-39
Theme: Mission At Home
Call To Worship
Leader: It is a good thing to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to our God;
People: to declare your steadfast love in the morning and your faithfulness by night.
Leader: Bless our God, all you who have come to worship; let the sound of his praise be heard.
People: Our lips will shout for joy, when we sing praises to the Lord.
Collect
O Lord, our God, cleanse the thoughts of our minds that we may be open to the leading of your Spirit. In this time of worship, help us to understand that not everyone is called to go to far away places to serve you, but there are tasks to be done and people to witness to right in our community. May we hear your call and go forth from this place to carry out your will. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Heavenly Father, because we have not been called to serve you as missionaries overseas, we sometimes feel there is nothing for us to do here at home. Open our eyes to the needs all around us, and speak to us your clear word commissioning us to bear our witness here at home. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Eternal God, accept these gifts and use them for your work around the world, and accept our pledge to serve you here at home. Amen.
Hymns
"Happy The Home When God Is There"
"O Master, Let Me Walk With Thee"
"O Brother Man, Fold To Thy Heart"
