Reading the scriptures with open minds
Prayer
Contemporary Lectionary Prayers
Cycle B
Gospel Note:
Luke uses here a post-resurrection appearance story that, in
light of its emphasis on Christ's physical aspect, was probably
originally an anti-Docetic piece. For Luke, however, it is a
"set-up" for some instruction by Jesus to his disciples
concerning mainly scriptural hermeneutics: he "opens" their minds
by giving them, not a closed system of literalistic rigidity, but
a new Christological angle from which to read the ancient Hebrew
canon and through which to understand their own situation and
ministry.
Liturgical Color:
White
Suggested Hymns:
Now, All The Vault Of Heaven Resounds
Look, Now He Stands
Praise The Savior, Now And Ever
Jesus Christ, My Sure Defense
Wondrous Are Your Ways Of God!
Here, O My Lord, I See Thee
Easter 3
Stay with us, Lord,
for we seldom have "Emmaus" experiences.
All too often, you seem far away from us.
Our lives unfold day by day without a clear
sense of your presence.
We believe that you love and care for us but we
long for a taste of the signs and wonders so
frequently described in the Book of Acts.
Are you as active today as you were back then?
If so, why is it so hard for us to see?
We long for an unmistakable affirmation of your
presence and your power.
Stay with us, Lord.
Reveal yourself to us,
as we address the needs of others,
as we involve ourselves in giving and sharing,
and as we face moments of decision.
Reveal yourself to us in the breaking of bread,
as you once revealed yourself to the disciples.
Stay with us, Lord.
Amen.
