A Call To Worship
Worship Aids, Lectionary Year B
Call To Worship (based on Psalm 139)
All: O LORD, you have searched me and known me.
One: You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from far away.
All: You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways.
One: Even before a word is on my tongue, O LORD, you know it completely.
All: You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me.
One: Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is so high that I cannot attain it.
All: For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother's womb.
One: I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well.
All: My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
One: Your eyes beheld my unformed substance. In your book were written all the days that were formed for me, when none of them as yet existed.
All: How weighty to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!
One: I try to count them -- they are more than the sand; I come to the end -- I am still with you.
Unison Prayer
Lord God, no one knows us like you. No one loves us like you. Yet it seems we spend the week hiding from you, concentrating on everything but you. However, this hour, this day, we resolve to focus our thoughts on you. We praise you for who you are. We praise you for what you have done. We praise you for your boundless love. Amen.
Morning Prayer
Lord of life, when Nathaniel asked if anything good could come from Nazareth, he was merely repeating the prejudice of his day. We look beyond our prejudices with your help as we see to celebrate that special glimpse we get of you in every person we meet. Bless us and guide us in our prayers for each other, so we may truly put each other's welfare first. Amen.
Offering Prayer
Lord, the earth waits expectantly for you to call everything to life. Lord, we wait expectantly for your new life to be born again in us. These gifts we bring in acknowledgment of your power which is manifested in us. As seeds planted in the snow, waiting for the spring, so we ask you call to life our gifts which with your will shall do great things. Amen.
