Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle C
Theme: God Does Not Forsake His People
Call To Worship
If you are discouraged by the way your life is going, come worship the God of Hope.
Our God has not forsaken or deserted us. He is ever present to strengthen and sustain us.
Come, let us worship our loving God revealed in Jesus Christ.
Collect
Almighty God, even as you spoke to your people through the prophets in ages past, reassuring them of your love, speak also to us this day. Let this time of worship be a reminder to us that you do not forsake us in time of trouble. Turn our hearts and minds from the shallow promises of the world to the only true source of our faith, hope, and trust -- even Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, we do not understand how you can be pleased with us when so often we ignore your commands and are beguiled by the lures of the world. We humbly accept your forgiveness, and pray that by the power of your Spirit we may be worthy of your delight in us. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
O God, accept these offerings of thanksgiving for your faithfulness toward us, and use them and us to be instruments of your never-failing love for all your people. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Hymns
"He Is Born"
"On This Day Earth Shall Ring"
"Break Forth, O Beauteous Heavenly Light"
Second Sunday After Epiphany
Second Lesson: 1 Corinthians 12:1-11
Theme: Gifts From The Holy Spirit
Call To Worship
Leader: Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever, for he is the source of all our gifts of the Spirit.
People: He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.
Leader: We have a variety of gifts, but the same Spirit gives them all.
People: Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised, for the gifts of the Spirit are for the good of all.
Collect
Lord God, we come together this morning as part of your church universal. As individuals or as a single church, our resources and abilities are limited, but when we work in unity and share the gifts you have given each of us for the good of all, we are capable of performing miracles in your name. In this time together, renew our vision of the Church as your Body, and strengthen our dedication to serve you and you alone. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, we hear your call to service, and too often we respond by claiming to be unable or unfit for the task. Forgive our lack of trust in you, and our failure to know the gifts you have given us. Make us aware, we pray, that you have given each of us gifts of the Holy Spirit to be used for the good of all, and give us the courage, the will, and the strength to put these gifts to work for your Church. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
We present these gifts, Lord, for the work of your church. Use them as well as the gifts of the Holy Spirit that each of us possess to show forth your love and concern for your children everywhere. Amen.
Hymns
"Great God, We Sing That Mighty Hand"
"Of All The Spirit's Gifts To Me"
"Spirit Of Faith, Come Down"
Second Sunday After Epiphany
Gospel Lesson: John 2:1-11
Theme: The Wedding At Cana
Call To Worship
Leader: At the wedding in Cana of Galilee, Jesus brought joy to the guests.
People: We come with joy in our hearts to celebrate the marriage of Christ and his Church.
Leader: Let your happiness radiate and bring joy to any guests that worship with us.
People: Jesus is the source of our joy, and we delight in sharing his love with others.
All: Praise be to God! Amen.
Collect
Lord, the Gospel tells us that when you revealed your glory, your disciples believed in you. Through your life, death, and resurrection, your glory has been revealed to us, and we, too, believe in you. We gather at this time to worship you, and give you thanks for the happiness you bring into our lives. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, when there doesn't seem to be enough of the good things in life for everyone, we are often content to ignore the needs of others as long as our own wants are satisfied. Forgive our lack of concern as well as our lack of faith that have kept us from seeking the miracles that could provide the abundance which would care for the needs of all. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Heavenly Father, we know that you are concerned about the welfare of all your children, so we present these gifts, knowing that by the power of your Spirit you can multiply their effectiveness in reaching out to meet the needs of people everywhere. Amen.
Hymns
"As Man And Woman We Were Made"
"How Beauteous Were The Marks"
"Fairest Lord Jesus"
