Second Sunday In Lent
Worship
Lectionary Worship Aids
Cycle B, Series IV
Call To Worship
Leader: Gather now for worship, all who would give praise to Almighty God!
People: God blessed Abraham and Sarah even when their age was against them.
Leader: God is truly Almighty and there is nothing the Lord cannot do.
People: God's promises are greater than any who would stand against them.
Leader: Indeed our God is wonderful and worthy of our praise and adoration.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, You blessed Abraham and Sarah, and even from their old age made a nation to be a blessing unto all nations. We hear Your message, Lord, that in Your power our work is never over. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, as we have grown through the years we have often been tempted to feel it would be impossible for You to use our lives or do anything with us. We have even read of how You kept Your covenant with Abraham and Sarah but we doubt that You would or even could use our lives in such a special way. Forgive us, Lord, and use us as You will. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"The God Of Abraham Praise"
"God Will Take Care Of You"
"All To Jesus I Surrender"
Second Sunday In Lent
Second Lesson: Romans 4:13-25
Theme: Abraham, man of faith
Call To Worship
Leader: Let all of God's people come together and share our faith!
People: For we are justified by faith and not our works alone.
Leader: Once we suffered the wrath and harshness of the Law.
People: But now we have been set free by our faith unto good works.
Leader: Then let us celebrate God's grace and mercy in our songs and praise.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Almighty and merciful God, You could have justly condemned and rejected us, yet You chose instead to send us the Christ who brings us Your salvation. We praise and thank You with all our love. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so often we have taken for granted the wonderful mission You gave each one of us as we became a part of Your church. Too often our days have returned to the mundane and we have lost sight of our commission to take Your light into the darkness wherever we find it. Forgive us, Lord, and restore our passion to serve and live for You. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"I Would Be True"
"God Will Take Care Of You"
"My Faith Looks Up To Thee"
Second Sunday In Lent
Gospel: Mark 8:31-38
Theme: Accepting our crosses and following
Call To Worship
Leader: We are called to render our hearts and not our garments for the Lord.
People: For God has been gracious and merciful to us, and slow to anger.
Leader: Then let us seek the Lord that we might know and serve God.
People: But how shall we come before the Lord and what shall we bring?
Leader: Christ has shown us the way; bring only your love, service, and praise!
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, in Your infinite wisdom You have given us the witness of Christ to teach us Your will for our lives. We will stand boldly for You, Lord, and proclaim Your Good News to the world. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, You call us to be voices for You in today's world. Yet so often we are silent when we should speak out, we are blind when we should see and battle injustice around us, and we are content in the midst of others who are suffering. Forgive us, Lord, and give us the strength and the courage to stand firm and declare Your love through our lives. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"O Master, Let Me Walk With Thee"
"There's A Spirit In The Air"
"Take My Life, And Let It Be"
