A Service Of Faith Renewal
Christian Faith
This You Can Believe
Faith Seeking Understanding
Object:
Dear Friends in Christ: At an earlier time in our lives, we were received by grace into God's Kingdom through Holy Baptism. Since that event, we have come to a better understanding of our faith. We are here to re-confess our faith in Christ and in our triune God. I, therefore, call upon each of us, in the presence of God and these witnesses, to reaffirm our faith by answering the following questions:
Do you renounce the devil and all his works and all his ways?
People: Yes, I renounce them.
Do you believe in God the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth?
People: Yes, I believe in God the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
Do you believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior?
People: Yes, I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
Do you believe in the Holy Spirit, your guide and comforter?
People: Yes, I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic church, the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.
Do you promise to continue in this faith and in the vows of your baptism?
People: Yes, I promise.
Do you promise to pray daily, to read the Bible regularly, and to receive the Holy Communion faithfully?
People: Yes, by the help of God.
The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
Let us pray.
Almighty and most merciful God, we thank you for this opportunity to renew our love, faith, and loyalty to you. We pray that we may ever remain true to you, that no love of the world may lead us away from you, but that in joyful obedience we may ever know you more perfectly, love you more fervently, and serve you more effectively in word and deed. Grant, dear Lord, that we may always be a blessing to our fellow men, a glory to you and faithful disciples of Jesus Christ, your Son, in whose name we pray:
People: Our Father, who art in heaven....
The peace of God which passes all understanding, keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
People: Amen
All joining hands may sing or say:
We Believe In One True God

We believe in one true God,
Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,
everpresent help in need,
praised by all the heavenly host;
by whose mighty power alone
all is made and wrought and done.
We believe in Jesus Christ,
Son of God and Mary's Son,
who descended from his throne
and for us salvation won;
by whose cross and death are we
rescued from sin's misery.
We confess the Holy Ghost,
who from both fore'er proceeds;
who upholds and comforts us
in all trials, fears, and needs.
Blest and Holy Trinity,
praise forever be to thee!
