Sixth Sunday After Epiphany
Worship
Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle C
Theme: The Lord Searches The Heart
Call To Worship
Leader: As we gather this morning, let us remember the word of the Psalmist who said: "Happy are those who reject the advice of evil people."
People: We are surrounded by people who set a bad example and are quick to give bad advice. We come to receive God's power in our lives that we may find joy in obeying the law of the Lord.
All: Praise be to God!
Collect
O God, everywhere we turn we see people who trust only in themselves and the power of money. We come to you in this time of worship, putting our trust in you and seeking the power of your Holy Spirit to keep us from evil. Help us to resist temptation, and enable us to keep on bearing fruit for your kingdom. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Search our minds and test our hearts, Lord, and where we have failed you, pardon our iniquities and forgive our shortcomings. Reinforce our resolve to trust you, and you alone. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Accept these offerings, Lord, and with them our determination to trust in you as we seek to spread your gospel of love by word and deed. Amen.
Hymns
"Have Thine Own Way, Lord"
"O Love That Will Not Let Me Go"
"Only Trust Him"
Sixth Sunday After Epiphany
Second Lesson: 1 Corinthians 15:12-20
Theme: The Promise Of Our Resurrection
Call To Worship
Leader: We worship Christ, risen from the dead.
People: We come looking for a better understanding of what the resurrection means to us individually.
Leader: Paul reminds us: "The truth is that Christ has been raised from death, as the guarantee that those who sleep in death will also be raised."
People: Praise be to God, for the promise of eternal life. Amen.
Collect
O God, we worship a living Lord made known to us in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. May our time together this day be an occasion for a new awareness of the promise that we, too, will be raised from death to an eternal life with you, O God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In Jesus'Êname we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord Jesus, we all have loved ones who have died. We believe they have been resurrected in the spirit, and are with you. We confess, though, to times of loneliness and doubt, when they seem lost to us forever. Rekindle in us, we pray, our faith in your living presence, and our belief that our departed loved ones are also near to us since they are with you. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Lord God Almighty, use these gifts we pray to bring to others the hope and the joy of the gospel of the resurrection. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Cristo Vive" ("Christ Is Risen")
"Sing With All The Saints In Glory"
"When We All Get To Heaven"
Sixth Sunday After Epiphany
Gospel Lesson: Luke 6:17-26
Theme: Happiness And Sorrow
Call To Worship
Leader: We have come to rejoice in the transforming power of the Risen Christ.
People: We give thanks for Christ's promise to change the lives of the poor and hungry.
Leader: Our lives may be full of sorrow and sadness, but Christ has promised to turn our tears into laughter.
People: We rejoice when we are reviled and excluded because we are disciples of the Risen Lord.
All: Hallelujah, Christ is Risen!
Collect
Lord, we gather as a part of your Church, your Body here on earth. Keep us ever faithful to our calling, and imbue us with your Holy Spirit that we may truly represent you in all that we do and say. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, like those early followers of Jesus, we want to reach out and touch you, for we know that power comes from you. We need the strength that comes from your Holy Spirit to keep us from the lure of money and the ignorance of selfishness which prevent us from serving you by serving others. Forgive our past failures, and send your Holy Spirit on us to lead us in the days ahead. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Heavenly Father, we bring these gifts as symbols of our commitment to you and your Church. Guide those who make decisions regarding the use of these funds, and so direct them and us that your name may be glorified. Amen.
Hymns
"Rejoice, Ye Pure In Heart"
"Out Of The Depths I Cry To You"
"Come, We That Love The Lord"
