Sixth Sunday Of Easter
Worship
Lectionary Worship Aids
Series V, Cycle A
First Lesson: Acts 17:22-31
Theme: To A Known God
Call To Worship
Leader: God is a known God who continually gives us evidence of presence.
People: God is a knowable God who extends to us the hand of hope.
All: Come, let us worship God. Amen.
Collect
In the dauntless first spring flowering of snowdrop and crocus, you have shown yourself. We see you in the will of a toddler's steps. In the strength of those with chronic conditions to override the death wish, you are there. You stand beside persistent peacemakers. You offer year-end perspective to the schoolteacher. All around us speaks the voice of a known God. Thanks be to God. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
We see dimly into the mirror, supposing, O God, that in your supremacy you are also unknowable and unapproachable. Yet you show yourself by the moment to be available at a whisper even in that instant before we become aware of calling to you. Thank you for making yourself known to us. Through Christ. Amen.
33A Hymns
"Blessed Assurance" Tune: ASSURANCE
"Nearer, My God, To Thee" Tune: BETHANY
"[I Sing The Mighty][We Sing The Almighty] Power Of God" Tune: ELLACOMBE
Sixth Sunday Of Easter
Second Lesson: 1 Peter 3:13-22
Theme: Gentle Hope
Call To Worship
Hope comes slipping in with the tenacity of a too early born infant who is ready to live. Sometimes hope is boisterous; mostly hope is quiet, a nearly touchable presence. Hope expects. Hope is a gift of the spirit.
Collect
As you brought us hope through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, O God, may we through our living bring an air of hope to those around us. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Teach us to trust that hope is connected to the holy. Teach us to trust that hope is as patient as God. Teach us to trust in hope. In the name of Jesus the Christ. Amen.
33A Hymns
"O Lord And Master Of Us All" Tune: WALSALL
"Be Still And Know That I Am God" Tune: MAPLE
"We Can Be Hope" Tune: OHIO
Sixth Sunday Of Easter
Gospel: John 14:15-21
Theme: I Will Not Leave You Orphaned
Call To Worship
Leader: God will not leave you orphaned.
People: Among our greatest fears is being abandoned.
Leader: God is coming to you.
People: We do not want to be deserted.
Leader: God will give you another advocate to be with you forever. This is the Spirit of truth within you.
Collect
Spirit of truth, be with us always. In return, because of our love for you, we will keep your commandments. Because Christ lives in Spirit, we also live. Thanks be to God. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
We call it intuition, conscience, scruples, or wisdom. We call it good upbringing, principles, or morals. Maybe all the time it has been you, God, finding one more way to make yourself known to us. Spirit of truth, be our champion. Whisper into our hearts the work of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

"Be Not Dismayed" or "God Will Take Care Of You" Tune: MARTIN
