New Mercies I See
When Betty appeared at my door she looked positively ill. It was 6:30 on a Friday evening and the rehearsal for her daughter's wedding was to begin in a half hour. "The wedding's off!" she blurted when I opened the door.
I was surprised, but I instantly recognized that for Betty this was a catastrophe. In most weddings, the mother of the bride invests herself emotionally, but in this case, it had gone way beyond that.
I invited her in and asked what happened.
