Call To Worship
Ruth's loyalty to Naomi was rewarded by Naomi's wise guidance for doing what was practical for survival in their day. Like the women of the neighborhood who named Ruth's baby, let us bring to others the supportive nurture of nearby women. Let us build a sense of encouraging community within the neighborhood that is this church.
Collect
Gracious God, we bring to you hearts willing to help. Bring to us the insight that can strengthen in those we know the commitments holding their daily lives together. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Help us to plot and plan and strategize for the right reasons, God. When we find ourselves in a strange neighborhood, keep us brave, increase our wisdom, and draw us to the people in whom we can put our trust. Help us reach out to each other as a faithful and faith-filled church family. Amen.
62B Hymns
"Joyful, Joyful, We Adore [Thee][You]" Tune: HYMN TO JOY
"Be Not Dismayed" or "God Will Take Care Of You" Tune: MARTIN
"For The Faithful Who Have Answered" Tune: OMNI DIE
Proper 27
Sunday between November 6 and November 12 inclusive
Second Lesson: Hebrews 9:24-28
Theme: Finally
Call To Worship
Christ died once and for all on our behalf and yet, like a gentle, enduring Spirit, Christ faithfully continues to enter our waiting lives again and again bringing quiet, life-giving hope.
Collect
Into the sin of laziness, into the sin of mental or physical cruelty, into the sin of guilty living, and into all the other sin that separates us from God, our neighbors, and ourselves, you come, O Christ, offering your transforming hope to those who wait for you. Hear the invitation of our prayer. Through Christ. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
We recognize, O God, that, unlike Christ, no progress is final for us. We appear to move forward in our lives, then we backslide. Help us to garner strength for the living of each day within the freedom Christ's sacrifice has given us to surmount what seems insurmountable. Amen.
62B Hymns
"Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise" Tune: ST. DENIO
"Great Is [Thy][Your] Faithfulness" Tune: FAITHFULNESS
"How Like A Gentle Spirit" Tune: SURSUM CORDA
Proper 27
Sunday between November 6 and November 12 inclusive
Gospel: Mark 12:38-44
Theme: All
Call To Worship
Wherein lies your poverty? There is the source of our compassion. There we identify with others who also suffer. There we most want to help. There we give of our energy, wisdom, experience, and understanding so that another might improve, so that another might know we join the journey into hope.
Collect
When we give of ourselves in service, our attention is on others rather than on ourselves. Instead of sensing depletion of our energy, we know fullness of spirit and purpose. Giving of ourselves, like loving, opens us more fully to you, O God. In the name of Christ. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Dear God, help us to rise above our selfishness, our greed, and our desire to be noticed and praised. Move us, rather, toward the compassionate giving of ourselves. In the name of Christ. Amen.
62B Hymns
"Christian, Rise And Act [Thy][Your] Creed" Tune: INNOCENTS
"I Would Be True" Tune: PEEK
"Teach Me, [O][Lord][My God], [Thy Way][Your Holy Way]" Tune: MORNINGTON or ROCKINGHAM
