Maundy Thursday
Call To Worship
Leader: Come, let us celebrate God's love for us in Christ!
People: Jesus knew our rejection and scourging.
Leader: Yet He bore our sorrows and griefs to the cross.
People: Jesus felt the pain of the nails and the hammer.
Leader: Yet for us Christ would die that we might have eternal life.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, You gave us such a blessing to bear our sins and sorrows for us upon the cross. Lead us, O God, to be more like Christ and less demanding that things should always be our way. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so often we would hear of the mercy and grace You have freely extended to all who will repent and serve You, but we would rather not hear the agony that was Yours upon the cross. So often, God, we would hear of our salvation, but we would rather not hear of the suffering and death as the price You paid for it. Forgive us, Lord, is all we can ask. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Hope Of The World"
"Must Jesus Bear The Cross Alone"
"Lead Me To Calvary"
Good Friday
Second Lesson: Hebrews 10:16-25
Theme: The New Covenant
Call To Worship
Leader: Let all who would serve the risen Christ gather for worship this day.
People: For in Christ God gave us a new covenant, so all may have new life.
Leader: Through the cross Christ has made full the Law forever.
People: Yet we are not without God's Laws nor without the Holy Spirit.
Leader: In Christ God has written the Law of love forever on our hearts.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, as You saw the volumes of rules we had gathered You sent to us a Savior. In Christ You taught us a new way, that we should love You and love one another. We praise You, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so often we have desired to write rules by which to live, yet it would seem the more we write, the more we need. You taught us, Lord, to love God and to love one another, yet so often we still would rather write our own sets of rules until again we find ourselves in bondage. Forgive us, Lord, and help us first to try living by Your love. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Blest Be The Tie That Binds"
"Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior"
"In Thee Do I Live"
Good Friday
Gospel: John 18:1--19:42
Theme: The Crucifixion
Call To Worship
Leader: Let all who would call Christ their Savior come together today!
People: For we remember just now the trial and the scourging Jesus suffered.
Leader: And we remember the crowds that mocked Him and said Jesus must die.
People: And we remember the disciples who scattered, and how Jesus died alone.
Leader: We remember also the cross, for on it God paid for our salvation.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, to watch us nail Jesus on the cross must have caused You so much pain. Jesus came so we might know peace and joy, but we rejected Him. Let us tell the world of Christ today. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, when we hear the story of the cross, so often we are tempted to think of it happening long ago and having nothing to do with us. Yet, Lord, each time we reject the needy or turn our backs on the hurting world around us in favor of our own comfort, we are again rejecting You. Forgive us, Lord; help us to love and care for others. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Alas! And Did My Savior Bleed"
"When I Survey The Wondrous Cross"
"The Way Of The Cross"
