Call To Worship (Psalm 104:24-34)
One:
O Lord, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. Yonder is the sea, great and wide, creeping things innumerable are there, living things both small and great. There go the ships, and Leviathan that you formed to sport in it.
All:
These all look to you to give them their food in due season; when you give to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are filled with good things. When you hide your face, they are dismayed; when you take away their breath, they die and return to their dust. When you send forth your spirit, they are created; and you renew the face of the ground.
One:
May the glory of the Lord endure forever; may the Lord rejoice in his works -- who looks on the earth and it trembles, who touches the mountains and they smoke.
All:
I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have being. May my meditation be pleasing to him, for I rejoice in the Lord.
Collect
The hunter is rising in the sky, the morning dew turns to frost, the wind turns chilly, green beans finally fail, and you are the author of all of this. We don't know how it's done, but we praise you for the overwhelming majesty of creation!
Prayer Of Confession
Glory! Glory. Glory....
Hymns

Jesus Shall Reign

Second Lesson: Hebrews 5:1-10
Theme: King Of Zadok, King Of Peace
Call To Worship
A chance encounter, an offering of bread and wine, words of praise, lead to memories that can never be forgotten and to changed lives. Doesn't seem likely? What role have chance encounters had in your lives? Come, God's people, gather and reflect that what seems like chance might be the movement of the Holy Spirit in our midst.
Collect
King of shalom, Lord of peace, we offer to you and to each other the joy we share in our fellowship today. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession (based on Hebrews 5:7)
Hearing God, we cry aloud as Jesus did, offering up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, fully aware that your answer might be that we drain this cup of sorrow to the dregs, in order that we might share through our suffering in the glorious reign of our Lord. Amen.
Hymns
Crown Him With Many Crowns
All Glory, Laud, And Honor
What Wondrous Love
Proper 24 / Ordinary Time 29

Gospel Lesson: Mark 10:35-45
Theme: You Just Don't Know
Call To Worship (Psalm 104:1-4, 35c)
Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, you are very great. You are clothed with honor and majesty, wrapped in light as with a garment. You stretch out the heavens like a tent, you set the beams of your chambers on the waters, you make the clouds your chariot, you ride on the wings of the wind, you make the winds your messengers, fire and flame your ministers. Praise the Lord!
Collect
God of fire, God of wind, God of rain, God of growing, your power is displayed in the explosion of harvest as well as your love which bursts forth in our midst. We are your people, ripe for the scythe. Gather us together in your name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Me first, Lord, put me first. Put my family first! My church first! My nation first! First, first, first! (Pause) Okay, Lord, okay. I take it back. Lord if you must answer our prayer and give us a visible place in your kingdom, let it be a spot which is graced with sacrificial suffering for our sisters and brothers around the world as well as those who are hurting near at hand. Then, though we can never earn the grace that you freely grant, we might at least climb for a few moments in the shadow of your cross. Amen.
Hymns
Are Ye Able?
Fill My Cup, Lord
O Healing River
