Those who know Jesus best may know him least
Prayer
Contemporary Lectionary Prayers
Cycle B
Gospel Note:
Mark places the rejection of Jesus by people in "his own
country" later in the ministry than does Luke, but the effect is
still the same: to underscore that the very ones most familiar
with an agent of God -- neighbors, relatives and household -- may
well be those least likely to recognize that person's divine
authority and mission, much less to respond in faith to it,
precisely because they know that person too well on the human
level.
Liturgical Color:
Green
Suggested Hymns:
God Moves In A Mysterious Way
O God Of Light
God Has Spoken By His Prophets
Jesus, Still Lead On
Proper 9 ù Pentecost 7 ù OT 14
Lord,
it hurts us to see people we love and care about
in the grip of unbelief.
We can only imagine how much your heart
aches for them!
Our prayers go out for members of our own
families, our friends, and people we work with.
We are able to sense both their need for you and
their resistance to the truth.
We need the constant guidance of your Holy
Spirit.
Help us to watch for opportunities to share
the hope and power of the good news.
Do not allow us to give up when we are
frustrated by the lack of response.
Help us to remember that you prepare hearts
to be receptive.
Use us to reach through the unbelief of others.
Amen.
