PETER PULPITPOUNDER, B.D.
PEACE AND HARMONY usually prevailed in this little church in the tiny village. Hardly a Sunday passed but the church was filled to hear the preacher wind the forge and pound the anvil. Hardly a Sunday came that the ushers failed to appear (at least by the time of the opening hymn), and hardly a Sunday went by that the janitor did not remember his regular ritual of striking a match on the seat of his pants to light the altar candles after the congregation was seated - a practice Peter tried to change. But changes are not easily made in those churches which are made up of people.
