Sermons which use superlatives, trite, groping, repetitious, "and so forth" expressions still turn off congregational listeners.
Years ago in the speech department of Wittenberg College, Springfield, Ohio, Paul R. Brees warned me about these communication faults and required all his speech students to read Richard C. Borden's Public Speaking, As Listeners Like It, published 35 years ago. It was then and there I learned about wax in speeches and the need to remove it.
