Series II, Cycle C
Today is the Sunday when we celebrate the Transfiguration of Jesus, a moment in his ministry when up on a mountain with Peter, James, and John, he became "transfigured" before them. They saw him in a more profound way. Paul's use of transfiguration seems based on the Hebrew Bible's account of Jesus' Transfiguration in Matthew, Mark, and Luke as well as a similar experience of Moses and the people of God in the desert. Once observed, Transfiguration Sunday leads us into the following season of Lent, which prepares us for Easter.
