Object:
You know how irritation can upset a person. Sometimes a member of a church can drive a pastor to severe distraction. Every church seems to have at least one member who is such a menace.
It is a striking fact that we could learn a lesson from the lowly oyster. When a grain of sand gets into the oyster's shell, what does it do about it? The oyster begins to insulate itself by secreting a substance to cover the irritation. Then, with the movement of the water over the oyster bed the grain of sand begins to roll into a ball and eventually becomes a thing of beauty, a pearl.
In fact, persons with special training cultivate the development of pearls in oysters kept for this purpose.
Can we learn to insulate the irritations of life so that they no longer are problems but pearls? It is worth the effort to do so.
It's just an example of the redeeming grace of God.
