Theme: Who Will Go?
Call To Worship
Leader: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
People: the whole earth is full of his glory.
Leader: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty who was and is and is to come.
People: O Lord God, great and mighty is your holy name, and to you we ascribe all honor and glory, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Collect
Glory be to you, Lord God Almighty! You have revealed yourself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Through your Son Jesus Christ, as well as the Holy Spirit, we have come to know your love for us and for all your creation. In this time of worship open our ears to hear your call to be messengers of your love, and give us the courage to respond: "Here am I, send me." Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, we have heard you calling, but have turned a deaf ear to your pleading. Grab our attention, we pray, and help us to respond to your forgiveness with repentance and a readiness to do your will. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Come, Thou Almighty King"
"Lord, Whose Love Through Humble Service"
The Holy Trinity
Second Lesson: Romans 8:12-17
Theme: God's Children
Call To Worship
Leader: Those who are led by God's Spirit are God's children.
People: Since we are his children, we will possess the blessings he keeps for his people.
Leader: The Spirit that God has given you does not make you afraid; instead the Spirit makes you God's children.
People: By the Spirit's power we cry out to God, "Father, my father."
Collect
Almighty God, we would worship you as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We are grateful to be called your children and to have the love of our Heavenly Father. We are awed by the sacrifice of your Son, Jesus Christ, through which we have known your forgiveness and promise of eternal life. In our joys and in our sorrows your Holy Spirit has counseled and comforted us with power to remain steadfast in our loyalty to you. We come now to give you praise and glory as we seek your continuing care and listen for your word of challenge. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, we seek to avoid anything that causes us suffering and pain. May we hear again the challenge of your word not to live as our human nature wants us to, but by the Spirit. Strengthen us that we may stand up for what your Spirit tells us is right even if it involves suffering. Show us how to share Christ's suffering that we may also share his glory. Amen.
Hymns
"Every Time I Feel The Spirit"
"God The Spirit, Guide, And Guardian"
The Holy Trinity
Gospel Lesson: John 3:1-17
Theme: Christ Came To Save The World
Call To Worship
We do not worship a vengeful God who is out to destroy us.
God is love, and he sacrificed his Son that the world might be saved through him.
God sent his Holy Spirit to empower us to carry on Jesus's ministry of salvation.
Come, let us worship God Almighty, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Collect
Heavenly Father, we know that when they crucified your Son, Jesus Christ, you did not leave us comfortless. You sent your Holy Spirit to show us that through Christ and your Spirit you are always with us. In the faith and hope of an eternity with you we strive to do your will and to witness to your forgiving love, that your kingdom may come and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Sometimes, Lord, we think it is impossible to change our old ways. Then we hear your Spirit saying to us that we must be born again. We realize we cannot be the old self and the new person in Christ at the same time, so we come to you seeking that new life in Christ that comes when we surrender all. Come into our lives, Lord, and give us new life. We pray in Jesus's name. Amen.
Hymns
"Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty"
"Christ For The World We Sing"
