God Of Love And Understanding...
Intercession
Prayers usually include these concerns and may follow this sequence:
The Church of Christ
Creation, human society, the Sovereign and those in authority
The local community
Those who suffer
The communion of saints
These responses may be used:
Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer
Lord, hear us.
Lord, graciously hear us.
God of love and understanding,
It's so much easier to respond to those who share my point of view, and who act like me. Sometimes I can't understand the way other people are, their complete disregard of society and other people's feelings.
But God of understanding, I notice those are the folk who change society. And eventually, I follow their lead, when it's safe to do so.
Help me to tolerate all people, especially those I fail to understand. Give me insight and patience and forbearance, that I may begin to love as you love.
God of creation, you created us all in your image, yet we are all so different. Help your Church to tolerate all people, no matter how odd or strange they may seem to us. Help us to appreciate each other's gifts, and to encourage each other's talent. Help us to avoid classifying people in a disparaging way, but encourage us to treat each person as an individual, especially those people who are colourful characters.
Today we continue to pray with the world-wide church for the Church of the South East Province of the USA and its President, Mrs Scott Evans, and for Lulea in the Church of Sweden, with Rune Backlund.
God of justice, we humans create such suffering for ourselves and others. We pray for those who seem unable to live together, especially for people suffering from national or domestic violence. We remember before you especially those communities which are striving towards peace, but in whom peace intiatives constantly break down.
We pray especially for ...
God of compassion, we hold in your presence those families with black sheep or scapegoats, especially any known to us. May they be so aware of your wisdom and love and strength that they are able to pour unconditional love over each other. may all members of those families draw together in a new beginning.
God of the future, we bring into your presence those who suffer in body, mind or spirit, asking you to lay your healing hands upon them. Those who are troubled or anxious at this time. Those who are sick. We name them in our own hearts, and .....
God of love, Mary and Martha were distraut when their dearly loved brother died. They thought Jesus didn't care, but they learned that Jesus always cares when people suffer. May those who have been bereaved recently or in previous years at this time, feel his love surrounding them and his strength filling their spirit.
Merciful Father,
Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
