God Of The Vine...
Intercession
Prayers usually include these concerns and may follow this sequence:
The Church of Christ
Creation, human society, the Sovereign and those in authority
The local community
Those who suffer
The communion of saints
These responses may be used:
Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer
Lord, hear us.
Lord, graciously hear us.
God of the vine, gardeners tend and nurture and feed and encourage, and it's only as a last resort that they dig up plants and throw them on the fire. As I shiver before you, afraid of your judgment, remind me that you want me to enjoy eternal life, not eternal death. Enable me to respond to your gentle care, and to remember that manure makes things grow best. And when it's time for pruning, let me hear again those wonderful words of Jesus, "Those who would lose their life for my sake will gain eternal life."

God of the vine, your Church should be the centre of growth, producing a huge harvest of fruit, and sometimes this is so. But sometimes your Church seems to be the centre of deadness, with brittle, undernourished branches which need to be pruned. Enable your Church to so receive your nurture and care that it bursts into new fruit and provides a centre for the world's spiritual harvest. Today, with Christians world-wide we pray especially for the Church of Western Australia, that luscious grapes may hang in great bunches from its branches.

God of the vine, sometimes the world gets the wrong idea about fruit. Sometimes the world thinks that money and wealth are the only fruit that all of us need. Remind world leaders that although we all need a good standard of living, the fruits of the spirit like love, joy and peace are our real heritage, and teach them to strive for those qualities.

God of the vine, sometimes our priorities become skewed. Sometimes we find education and wealth at the top of our list, and teach our families to think the same. Remind us that real wealth lies in the things of the spirit, and when you need to prune or add manure, give us the insight to realise that all things work together for our good.

God of the vine, some of our friends and families have been precipitated into a different list of priorities through ill health. Lay your healing hands upon them ... We name them in our own hearts ... and help them throughout their illness to hold onto the image of you as a caring, nurturing gardener.
God of the vine, lay your healing hands upon those who are sick or sad ... We name them in our own hearts ... and help them throughout their illness to hold onto the image of you as a caring, nurturing gardener.
God of the vine, nothing feels more like savage and agonising pruning than the death of someone close. Some of our friends have suffered this pruning either recently, or in previous years at this time. May they feel your arms around them, giving them the strength and support and love they need. Especially we remember the family of ...., and those for whom this time of year brings a sad anniversary....
