Healing God...
Intercession
Prayers usually include these concerns and may follow this sequence:
The Church of Christ
Creation, human society, the Sovereign and those in authority
The local community
Those who suffer
The communion of saints
These responses may be used:
Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer
Lord, hear us.
Lord, graciously hear us.
Healing God,
Sometimes I'm afraid of your glance, for it's like a scimitar which slices straight through me to the depths of my being, to those parts I'd like to keep hidden and undisturbed. I dread the pain of facing my hidden depths, and would prefer to remain in unhealed comfort.
But healing God, please ignore my wimpish preferences. Go ahead, heal me, disturb me, however I cry out and fight against your truth. Help me to turn away from the comfort zone of half-truths and follow only you, the way, the truth and the life.
When I prefer to remain by the side of the pool complaining because nobody helps me, remind me of your clear, sparkling living water and give me the push I need to reach out and take it. And when I've taken the first sip, healing God, enable that sip to become a spring within me, gushing up to eternal life.
Healing God, as we meet together in this sacred space of prayer, we bring with us our parish here at ... May there be no half-truths among your people here. Give us the strength and the courage to be honest with each other, not condemning each other for perceived failures, but encouraging and supporting each other in what we can do. May your world-wide church sparkle with your living water, so that all will want to come and drink of you.
Healing God, into this sacred space of prayer we bring the nations of the world, asking that those leaves of the tree of life which are for the healing of the nations may grow strong and act powerfully. We pray for all nations since all need healing, but especially for those nations which abuse your world through intemperate and greedy actions, and those nations which abuse each other through theft or violence. At thiws time we remember especially the people of....
Healing God, we bring into this sacred space those whom we love ... and those who are unloved. We hold especially in your presence awkward, unlovable, difficult people and ask you to pour healing, living water into and over them. Rather than heaping blame upon them, may we be aware of our own failures to love, and learn from you how to love more effectively.
Healing God, there are those among our friends and families who need to leap into healing water like that of the pool of Beth-zatha, but who have no-one to help them. As we hold them in your presence in this sacred space, may they drink at your fountain of living water and be filled with life in all its wonder and glory and health. We name them before you....
Healing God, give to those who are dying and those who are recently bereaved a vision of heaven. May they see the heavenly city with its central river of living water and its tree of life on either side of the river. And as they travel within this city, may they know your presence, travelling with them and keeping them safe from all harm. We name beofre you those who especially need your strong arms at this time....
Merciful Father,
Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
