Restrictive religion versus redemptive righteousness

Note: There is no content for Proper 4 / OT 9 / Pentecost 2 from The Village Shepherd. This excerpt is a substitute for subscribers of The Village Shepherd.Gospel Note:
In the two incidents recorded here, both related to Sabbath-
keeping, Jesus' justifications for the alleged violations on his
and his disciples' part are varied: Davidic precedence,
creational order, personal (Christological) authority, and even
latitude within the law itself for extraordinary cases of human
need. Throughout, the message is that redemption has priority
over rules, especially in light of the new dispensation dawning
in him.

Proper 4 - Pentecost 2 - OT 9
Lord,
we are glad to be here this morning!
We could have been many other places ...
We chose to be here to worship and praise you.
We are drawn to this place because we need you.
We need to know your will for our lives.
Yet, we are somewhat afraid and we hold back.
We have a habit of building fences and
hiding behind them.
Our fences block our view and give us a false
sense of security.
Help us to take down these fences, for they are
barriers which hinder our spiritual progress.
Meet us where we are weak and afraid.
Remind us that true security is found within your
words of life and hope.
Yes, we are glad we chose to be here this
morning!
Amen.
