Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer
Lord, hear us.
Lord, graciously hear us.
Risen God, I really do want to know you in a new sort of way. I want to understand at the deepest level of my being and I want to be changed by you. But it's difficult, risen Lord. I have my life, and I quite like it the way it is. Could you half come in...? Risen God, help me to hand over control to you. Help me to be willing to allow you total access to my life. Help me to face my own crucifixion, so that I may experience resurrection and new, eternal life in you.

Risen God, sometimes your church seems so heavy and overbearing that it feels like it a pre- Easter institution which hasn't properly understood anything you've said. But at other times it seems to go mad with the heady intoxication of new wine, and people are beaten and buffeted by a power beyond their control. Risen God, give your church the courage to face crucifixion, so that it may experience resurrection and learn and understand from you at the very depths of its being. With Christians world-wide we pray today for the church in Karlstadt in Sweden.

Risen God, the world feels like an unfair place. So many, many people suffer crucifixion but so few of them seem to experience much in the way of resurrection. Risen God, may we so clearly understand your truth that we are prepared and ready to ensure that those who live in poverty begin to enjoy some of the wealth we have procured for ourselves.

Risen God, it's easy to wear a facade, to show the world a mask of our own choosing. But at home we are truly ourselves, and our families and closest friends see us as we really are. Risen God, may we so experience you, the living God, at centre of our being, that we have the courage to be exactly the same wherever we are.

Risen God, on the cross you suffered sickness and weakness just as some of our friends suffer now, so you understand how they feel and how we feel as we watch them. We bring into your presence those of our friends and families who are sick. Lay your healing hands upon them ... We name them in our own hearts...

Risen God, after your terrible pain and suffering on the cross, you died. But you rose to a new and wonderful and vibrant and exciting eternal life, and you promised the same for all of us, that we too, our essence, the real us, would rise after death to a new and brilliant eternal life. and so we claim that promise now for ... who died recently, and we remember the families of all those for whom this time of year brings a sad anniversary....

We ask these prayers through him who risked all for us, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Merciful Father,
Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
