Acting Out Opposites
Children's Activity
Object:
Parents or Teachers: Today's message was the story of the rich man and
the poor man who both died. The rich man didn't go to live with God, but
the poor man did. The rich man desire a warning for his brothers so they
won't end up where he is -- separated from God. First dicuss some of the
opposites in the story. The first opposite would be rich and poor. Some
others might be heaven and not heaven; happy and sad; listen and not
listen. Talk about which words describe the rich man and which ones
describe the poor man. After a small discussion of the characters and
their opposites, read the story to the children. Then act it out using
simple lines. There are just two main characters who talk -- the rich man
and Father Abraham. By using their creative imaginations, the children
might be able to come up with some lines for the poor man and the rich
man's brothers and possibly even Moses and the prophets. You may want to
divide into two groups and have some simple group lines paraphrasing the
ones in the Bible. Another adult might be helpful to work with one group
while you work with the other group.
