Spread God's Kingdom
Children's sermon
Object:
a map of the local county
The Point: Jesus brings grace and healing into our lives so that we might spread his kingdom.
The Lesson: Welcome to our special time of sharing. I am always blessed to have you come and share with me.
Our town is a really special place to live in. Why is our town special? (let children answer) Our community is filled with good families and people who care and support one another. Our parks and play grounds are fun places to play. We have stores to shop for food and clothing and so many other things. We have doctors' offices for when we are sick. We have a police station where policeman can help us and work to keep us safe. Of course, we have churches where we can gather as families of faith to worship and support each other.
I brought a map of our county this morning. What does a map do for us? (let children answer) Here is our town and all around it you can see other communities and places where people live. Beyond our county is our state and beyond our state is our country and finally the whole world.
From the Bible we heard about Jesus caring for people in Simon's town. Hearing about Jesus' teaching and the healing he was doing, everyone in the town was looking for him. But when it was dark, Jesus left to pray. In the morning, Simon found Jesus and thought they would go back to his town. But Jesus said that they needed to go to other towns so that the kingdom of God might spread beyond Simon's town.
I believe Jesus wants us to do the same thing. We come together in our church to worship. After worship our faith should spill out of our church and into our community. As our faith spreads through our community, it should continue to be shared in our county, state, country, and throughout the world. Jesus doesn't want us to keep our faith to ourselves. Wherever we go, we should share Jesus' love and be the presence of Jesus.
As we spread the good news of God's kingdom, it is exciting to think that some day we will all be one family of faith. That is why Jesus came to share the Father's love with the whole world.
Closing Prayer: Let us unite our hands and hearts in prayer. Lord Jesus, you brought your healing love and grace into the world. As your healing touch gives life and hope, touch each of us so that we might continue to spread your kingdom. Jesus, in your name we pray. Amen.
