A certain labor union official had siphoned off the union pension fund and taken kickbacks. When he sensed that the police were trailing him, he took all of his money and put it in foreign accounts where it could not be found. He was indeed arrested, faced trial, and was sentenced to ten years in jail.

After he was released from prison, he retrieved his invested money, which had grown to quite a sum, and moved to Mexico to live in luxury.

He was no doubt a scoundrel, but he was capable of acting decisively in his own interest.
