In a children's story titled The Stray, a group of elementary students are taken by a school bus to the zoo. All are admonished and warned not to stray from the group. One boy, "Number 12," pays no attention and soon finds himself separated and lost. Through his imagination, a large person becomes the "hippo man," who chases him with a huge net, trying to capture him and put him in a people's zoo. "Number 12" is greatly relieved and appreciative when he is once again found and becomes part of the group.
