Clovis Chappell tells about the cranky old Scotch minister who one day stopped to get his shoes shined. The little bootblack rather clumsily daubed polish on the minister's socks as well as on his shoes. When he was scolded for his carelessness, he burst into tears and ran off, leaving the shoes half finished. Angrily, the clergyman demanded that the owner of the stand finish the job. But he was filled with shame when the man replied, "Of course I will, sir, but don't be too hard on the lad.
