A father told his son...

A father told his son he should give up something for Lent as a way of remembering the sacrifice of Christ. He said, "Maybe you could give up something like candy for this period. For example, your mother and I have decided to give up liquor."
The little boy said, "But Daddy, I saw you drinking something this afternoon."
"Oh, that was just a beer, we're giving up hard liquor."
"I see. Well, maybe I should just give up hard candy."
