An instrument once used only for killing is now used to save life. The blowpipe with poison darts has been used by African and South American tribes as an instrument for warfare and hunting. Now, in civilized nations, the blowpipe has been adapted to the control and medical care of domesticated and wild animals. Veterinarians and animal control officers now use blowpipes to administer medicines or to immobolize animals instead of the noisy, more powerful capture gun. The nearly noiseless blowpipe causes hardly any pain and does far less tissue damage because it fires a smooth needle instead of a barbed one. After hitting the animal, penetrating, and injecting the vaccine, the dart drops to the ground.
"When anyone is joined to Christ, he is a new being." (2 Corinthians 5:17 TEV) With the power of Christ operating within us, we are changed from people who are servants of sin and its destructive power to people who are instruments of God's healing love. What goes out of us should not be to kill but to save. That is God's design being worked in us now, and the changeover process will be complete in heaven. "When Christ appears, we shall be like him."
