Many churches have known financial difficulties at one time or another, my own being no exception. Serving on the budget committee for our regional authority was a less than pleasant experience. Finding the income dropping and the expenses rising, we had no alternative as good fiscal stewards but to recommend the cutting of programs. The meeting of congregational representatives that followed was a donnybrook! The committee was accused at every hand of having no vision, refusing to consider the needs of the people, and generally being unfaithful to the mission of the church.
