The new policy manual had...

The new policy manual had just been distributed to all the employees one week earlier. The memo attached to it had simply requested each employee to carefully read it soon. However, when Tim received a note that the president of the company wanted to see him the next day concerning the new policy manual, he got very nervous. He took the new manual home with him that night and read it word for word. He couldn't help but wonder if he had unwittingly acted contrary to company policy. Even when he found no obvious violation of company policy, he still felt anxious about the scheduled meeting the next morning. Perhaps the president wanted to nitpick about personal use of the copier, or the occasional phone call from one of his kids with the latest "crisis" from the home front which did take Tim away from his job for a few minutes. Nevertheless, Tim did not sleep well that night before his big meeting.
With perspiring palms and heavy eyelids, Tim stepped into his boss' office to hear the following opening line: "Tim, I want to thank you for coming here this morning. I wanted to give you a chance to ask any questions you might have about the new policy manual. I don't know about you, but I am so glad to finally have this new policy in print. This way, we all know what is expected and there will be very few unpleasant surprises along the way."
