A number of years back, I worked at a wholesale retail chain, and one day our manager invited Orlando Pace, a former Ohio State University football standout, as well as a former St. Louis Ram, to come in and sign autographs. That store, being a wholesale warehouse, was huge, and yet there seemed to be a line going all around the store, with people holding papers, cards, footballs, hats, shirts, anything they could grab for this athlete to sign.
While I'm sure Mr. Pace is a great guy, that day taught me something. In the world of sports, as well as the worlds of entertainment and politics, self-promotion is the name of the game. If you can't put your name out there and rise above the competition, you won't get anywhere in your field. However, Jesus plainly states that "everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted." How do we exemplify that attitude with lines of fans stretching through wholesale warehouses?
