Remember in primary school when the teacher would take us to the gymnasium? She would have us form a huge circle, hold hands, and stretch out as far as possible. Then the monumental question would invariable come, "Who wants to be it?"
Through experience, I learned the task called for selecting the team made up of the best players that could be picked. The sadness came quickly when the coin was tossed or the number chosen and I didn't get the first pick; the other team got Bob! Second best was okay. After that everyone seemed to look about the same --until you were down to the last two or three kids. Then the tide turned. They had to be picked, too. They had to be on one of our teams. Now came the first pick of the leftovers. And the other captain had to pick first!
Jesus became "it." He had to choose a team. They had a game to play in which the great and the least would be selected.
