Commentary
In his wonderful collection The Moral Compass: Stories for a Life's Journey, William J. Bennett includes a story told by John W. Mansur about a young boy who was willing to lay down his life for a friend. The boy was one of a number of children in an orphanage in Vietnam which was bombarded one day with mortar rounds. An eight-year-old girl was seriously wounded and in desperate need of a transfusion.
