The Christ who feeds the hungry
Prayer
Contemporary Lectionary Prayers
Cycle B
Gospel Note:
The feeding of the 5,000 is the only miracle recorded by all
four Gospels. John's version differs in some details, and is more
eucharistic in emphasis and eschatological in signification than
those of the Synopticists. Perhaps a miracle of sharing by
example, the event nevertheless shows that compassion for human
needs is central to the Kingdom of God that Jesus in inaugurating
and prefiguring.
Liturgical Color:

Suggested Hymns:
From God Can Nothing Move Me
Before You, Lord, We Bow
All Creatures of Our God And King

Through The Night Of Doubt And Sorrow
The Church's One Foundation
Proper 12 ù Pentecost 10 ù OT 17
Lord, we know that you have promised to provide
all that we need.
The problem is that we have a long list of things
which we think we need.
But adversity has a way of showing us the
difference between want and need.
It only takes a missed meal or two to become
acquainted with hunger.
The threat of an unexpected lay off brings a new
appreciation for our jobs.
Five loaves, two fish.
Small resources ... Large crowd ...
And their hunger was satisfied
with food to spare.
Lord, teach us what it means to trust you.
Give us the faith to trust you
and the desire to serve you.
Multiply our resources and bless our efforts,
in the name of Jesus Christ.
Amen.
