The cross is a consequence of Christian confession
Prayer
Contemporary Lectionary Prayers
Based Upon Cycle C Lectionary Gospels
Gospel Theme:
The cross is a consequence of Christian confession
Gospel Note:
The juxtaposition of Peter's confession (vv. 18-22) and Jesus' saying on discipleship (vv. 23-24) is unique to Luke, and is indicative of just how evitable he saw self-denial and self-sacrifice to be for the true follower of the Christ. His addition of the word 'daily'' to his Marcan source further shows that he saw (and wanted his Christian contemporaries to see) such suffering as an ongoing part of the church's mission.
Liturgical Color:
Green
Suggested Hymns:
Lord Of Our Life
Let Me Be Yours Forever
Who Trusts In God, A Strong Abode
Out Of The Depths I Cry To You
Dear Christians, One And All
Today Your Mercy Calls Us
88
Proper 7 -- Pentecost 5 -- OT 12
Questions.
Questions.
Questions.
Is there no end to the questions we have?
When will Jesus return?
What happens to the body when we die?
What will my new body look like?
Is there really a heaven?
We have a long list of questions, Lord!
To put it simply, we have to know the answers ...
or do we?
Maybe the question which matters most is the
one Jesus asked his disciples:
''Who do you say that I am?''
This is a good question. It is the question!
The answer?
Jesus, you are the Christ, the Son
of the Living God.
This answer can only be given when a person
is open to the prompting of the Holy Spirit.
When this answer is given from the heart,
many of those questions we want to have answered
will probably become less important.
Open our hearts, Lord.
Amen.
