Jeremiah 31 is a part of what has been known as the Little Book of Comfort that is made up of chapters 30 and 31 in the Jeremiah corpus, and that announces the Lord's future salvation of the people whom he has sent into Assyrian and Babylonian exiles on account of their sin. The introduction to chapter 31, verse 1, states that the salvation is intended for both the northern and southern kingdoms of Israel, and 31:2--20 are specifically directed to the peoples of the northern kingdom.
