THINKING IN STORY
Preaching In A Post-literate Age
We now turn our attention to the very practical matter of
determining how we might learn to "think in story." In his book
titled, Imagination of the Heart: New Understandings in
Preaching, Paul Scott Wilson gives this helpful definition of
story. Story, he writes, is a "... sequence of events or images
that employs plot, character and emotion. Plot gives it
direction; character gives it humanity; and emotion gives it
people in relationship."1 When we are looking for stories to
tell, therefore, we are looking for that right combination of
